The last time I blogged I was in the car on my way to Vermont to learn how to ski! I had so much fun, but it was freezing. There were so few people on the mountain because of the cold I ended out with a private lessons because no one else signed up for the group. The instructor said he has never had someone progress so far so quickly.
Here I am at the end of the day at Okemo in Vermont. We decided on Monday I should go again, this time we went to West Point, which is a lot closer to home. Well needless to say, I got to ride down the mountain on the snowmobile.
We ended out in the ER and I had a concussion. Evidently even when wearing a helmet if you fall multiple times (as any beginner would) you can hurt your head. I ended out missing 2 days of school, I know I should have missed more, but all teachers know that it is easier to go to school.
My follow up doctor, said that I can continue to ski, although she wasn't happy with attending school, but knew I wouldn't listen. She is mostly concerned with the noise levels and the florescent lights. I even limited drastically my computer usage. Needless to say, this is why I haven't blogged all month, I needed to focus on school with my limited computer time. But, now I seem to be better, she said I can judge how I feel because everyone is different.
I do love skiing, and I have since purchased my own boots, and rented skis for the season. The instructor said good boots would be a great investment. When I went to get the boots we figured out the ones I was wearing at West Point were 3 sizes too big, no wonder I kept falling! With my new boots on we tackled Mohawk Mountain, once again closer to home, and I didn't fall at all. I am going to continue on smaller CT mountains, and hopefully get up to Vermont again on Good Friday.
Between missing the 2 days of school, the 6 snow days since January 27, and countless delays and early closings, this month has been crazy! We aren't talking Boston levels but we still have had a lot of snow! We still have managed to get a lot of work done.

We made new hallway displays for Lent. We painted the background, then added the cross with the prayer and jelly beans. I wish I had a better finished picture, they came out adorable! You can sort of see one in the background of the next picture.

Just to make life more interesting our basketball tournament has officially begun (ok it began a week ago). My class had this giant box, they kids decided to decorated it for the tournament. It now stands in the hall for all to see.

One reward I use in my classroom is sitting at the teachers desk. I love how this little one left my desk when she left for music this past week. Of course she is not that organized at her own seat!

We also have been getting all of our academic work in, second grade isn't all fun, games, and basketball. Here we are learning how to take on a dictionary.
Hopefully I am caught up enough again so I can get back into some blogging habits. I still have quite a few blogs to read to catch up again, miss a couple of weeks and all of a suddenly you have hundreds to read.
Before I go, I wanted to let you know I am part of a birthday giveaway over at Miss Johnston's Journey, stop by for some great giveaways and many freebies.
You can win my Fact and Opinion task cards in the Primary ELA giveaway!
I'm so sorry you had a concussion - that's scary - even wearing a helmet, no less! I'm impressed that you are still willing to go skiing, but good for you! Have a great week!
