The Best Classroom Pencil Sharpener!!!

Last September I reviewed a wonderful pencil sharpener.
You can find my full review here.

Just as an update to that review, I would like to report that the pencil sharpener is still going strong.  I am now the only one to use it.  It is so much fun to use that the kids used it too much, and the things that hold the pencil in place wore the paint off the pencils, and made them yucky.
I do not sharpen as often as the children, so the pencils are all lovely and sharp now.

I do have this trusty blue sharpener at school, and the pretty pink one at home.  But as of today, I have the newest color..... Purple!

The great people at Classroom Friendly Supplies put the color out to vote, and purple won! I am so excited for this beautiful purple pencil sharpener.  It does look a little yellow in the photo because of the wood and flash, sorry about that.

Now the real question is what location to keep my new sharpener in....and you should go visit Classroom Friendly Supplies to check out the color that would be perfect in your classroom.

*Disclaimer, I was provided a pencil sharpener for my honest review.  I really do use the blue sharpener in my classroom and have gotten rid of all other sharpeners including the electric ones.

TPT Sellers Challenge: Makeover Madness

I have been in the biggest blogging, TPT, social media funk!!! I had my spark in the classroom, but the spring did me in as far as everything else.  This challenge is the perfect thing to inspire me.  I made over my product yesterday and had so much fun doing it. Hopefully this will lead to a very productive summer.

I chose to makeover my Winter Contraction Activity, I figured with the heat of the summer it would be nice to work on a "cold" item.  Here is the image I will be posting on Instagram to show my changes.  I love how the new one looks, the colors and graphics are so much cuter.

Here is the original product, it was a good center activity that my class loved!  It was just one of my earlier products and I knew I had the perfect clipart to make it better.

Here is the preview of my updated product.  I changed up the clipart and backgrounds, I also added a black and white version.  I have started adding black and white versions to all my products.  I find it useful to have them and print on colored card stock.  Hopefully they will be a benefit to others as well.

One other part of the challenge is to see how the challenge helps you grow.  Here are my beginning stats, lets see if I can get more followers as I get my mojo back.

A huge thanks to Sparkling in Second, Peppy Zesty Teacherista, Third in Hollywood, and Teach Create Motivate for starting this challenge and helping so many get back on track this summer!

Random Saturday Post - Giveaway!

The last time I blogged I was in the car on my way to Vermont to learn how to ski! I had so much fun, but it was freezing.  There were so few people on the mountain because of the cold I ended out with a private lessons because no one else signed up for the group.  The instructor said he has never had someone progress so far so quickly.

Here I am at the end of the day at Okemo in Vermont.  We decided on Monday I should go again, this time we went to West Point, which is a lot closer to home.  Well needless to say, I got to ride down the mountain on the snowmobile.

We ended out in the ER and I had a concussion.  Evidently even when wearing a helmet if you fall multiple times (as any beginner would) you can hurt your head.  I ended out missing 2 days of school, I know I should have missed more, but all teachers know that it is easier to go to school.

My follow up doctor, said that I can continue to ski, although she wasn't happy with attending school, but knew I wouldn't listen. She is mostly concerned with the noise levels and the florescent lights.  I even limited drastically my computer usage.  Needless to say, this is why I haven't blogged all month, I needed to focus on school with my limited computer time. But, now I seem to be better, she said I can judge how I feel because everyone is different.

I do love skiing, and I have since purchased my own boots, and rented skis for the season.  The instructor said good boots would be a great investment.  When I went to get the boots we figured out the ones I was wearing at West Point were 3 sizes too big, no wonder I kept falling!  With my new boots on we tackled Mohawk Mountain, once again closer to home, and I didn't fall at all.  I am going to continue on smaller CT mountains, and hopefully get up to Vermont again on Good Friday.

Between missing the 2 days of school, the 6 snow days since January 27, and countless delays and early closings, this month has been crazy!  We aren't talking Boston levels but we still have had a lot of snow!  We still have managed to get a lot of work done.

We made new hallway displays for Lent.  We painted the background, then added the cross with the prayer and jelly beans.  I wish I had a better finished picture, they came out adorable!  You can sort of see one in the background of the next picture.

Just to make life more interesting our basketball tournament has officially begun (ok it began a week ago).  My class had this giant box, they kids decided to decorated it for the tournament.  It now stands in the hall for all to see.

One reward I use in my classroom is sitting at the teachers desk.  I love how this little one left my desk when she left for music this past week.  Of course she is not that organized at her own seat!

We also have been getting all of our academic work in, second grade isn't all fun, games, and basketball.  Here we are learning how to take on a dictionary.

Hopefully I am caught up enough again so I can get back into some blogging habits.  I still have quite a few blogs to read to catch up again, miss a couple of weeks and all of a suddenly you have hundreds to read.

Before I go, I wanted to let you know I am part of a birthday giveaway over at Miss Johnston's Journey, stop by for some great giveaways and many freebies.

You can win my Fact and Opinion task cards in the Primary ELA giveaway!

Five for Friday- February 13

Happy Friday! I am linking up with Doodlebugs teaching today for Five for Friday! I am sorry for any typos or missing links today. I am typing this in the car, on my iPad, on the way to Vermont for the day. I am quickly realizing this isn't the most convent way to blog, but I wanted to share with you :)

Our district decided that instead of a February vacation we can have just Friday and Monday off. I do miss having the week, but hopefully we are done with snow days so we can get out early this year.  I am very excited today, even though I had to leave at 5:30 this morning, I am on my way to Okemo mountain in Vermont. I am going to learn to ski today, I have been skiing twice before, once when I was little and again in college, so it should be interesting. I may blog again on the way home with pictures :)

My kids have become obsessed with clipart! Every month I change their name tags, and this month they started putting in requests.  I put a slide up with about 50 images for them to choose from. They came to me with their choices and told me how they wanted it on their tag.  I still had requests for a Lego Yoda and the Tardis, so I went to Google.  I loved how they came out, and my kids are so proud of them.

I made these for my kids, we had our party yesterda, and they loved them.  When I say made them, all I did was print and attach the pencils and bubbles.  The card was created by Emily at Munchkins Inc. if you want them they are a freebie on her TPT store, store name Munchkins Inc.

The best part of our day yesterday was these boxes.  We had them create a box for the cards and such based on a book they read and wrote a report on.  We left the book choices wide open. I have never had a class so excited about card boxes. This will defiantly be a new tradition in our classroom!

This friend was pretty excited, she said she had a Harry Potter desk! Her card box, name tag, and book (Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets) all have to do with Harry Potter, needless to say we needed a picture.

This brings us to my final items for today, this is our next read aloud.  I currently have 12 out of 17 of my second graders trying to read it, with others that want to try as well. I told them we are starting on Tuesday, so they can read ahead of us, along with us, or just listen.  This book is hard for a second grader to read on their own, and they are so excited to share it as a class!

I am almost to Okemo, well I am just entering Vermont! Make sure to stop by Doodlebugs teaching to see what others are up too.  I am sorry I can't figure out how to add the links. I just hope this posts, service keeps going in and out. Talk to you soon!

Did you miss me?

I feel like it has been forever since I have blogged.  To be honest it has, and I am sorry.  I needed a little me time to refocus and regroup on myself.  The holiday season is crazy enough, and well January I just needed to do a massive reset.  Thanks to the inspiration of Rachelle at What the Teacher Wants! I put my health first and dove into the Whole30 head on.

I must say I feel 100 times better!  Things I didn't even know I was having issues with seemed to go away.  I had no idea that changing your diet for a month can do that.  Needless to say it was a big change, so that is where most of my blogging/tpt time went.  However, I think I have a handle on it now, so I am back!!!  I plan on continuing to eat this way, but not be as strict when something special comes along.  I even have the urge to exercise which is odd, but I am embracing it.

So here I am, on my second snow day in a row, and I thought I need to post a product and blog.  This is my next goal to conquer so I am going head on like I did with the Whole30!

In honor of the snow we have been getting hammered with in New England, I made a Snow Much Fun inspired Adverb activity.  It includes 16 cards with short sentence on them.  You need to find the adverb and record it on the sheet.  There are two different answer sheets, for differentiation, one they just need the adverb and the other they need to write the verb and adverb.  There are also two forms of each of those sheets, one where you have to write sentences on the back and one you do not need to do this step. There are a total of 4 different recording sheets to fit the needs of your students.

I also tend to make all my task cards in color and black & white.  This is so you can print it on colored card stock and save some ink money. I also suggest laminating them so they last a few more years.  Every little bit helps!

This product will be listed at half off until Wednesday night, but you can also win one here!
Just comment on this post and I will pick 2 random winners tomorrow night.
